Same Old Story

Another slightly mediocre England performance, another call for a replacement for Sven. Nothings changes, eh? Instead of getting behind the manager (as is often the case in other countries), Alan Curbishley felt it was his turn to get in his two pence' worth and suggest (again) that it is time for an English manager to lead the England team. Yawn.

“At the moment there’s no vacancy, and it’s all just paper talk,” he said. “I guess it will all come down to which managers are doing what when Sven does go. Most people believe the next England manager should be English, and there’s a group there who are ready and waiting.”

Apart from mentioning Steve McClaren, he also suggests Sam Allardyce, Steve Bruce and Bryan Robson as other potential candidates.

Jesus! Sam Allardyce! Steve Bruce! Bryan Robson! Is that the best he can do?

It would be bad enough to see England play like Bolton, but it's a sad state of affairs when Curbs also puts forward the man whose biggest recent achievement is narrowly avoiding relegation. Worryingly, the Charlton manager isn't the only (English) manager thinking along the same lines. Alan Pardew (that reknowned footballing tactician) put forward the same names in last week's Timessssss....jskjdsdsdweewwwwzzzz.

Sorry, I just fell asleep at the keyboard. All this meaningless drivel is getting rather tiresome. Until a candidate with some serious credentials turns up, Sven is simply the best that's available. He may not treat friendlies with much respect, his tactics occasionally backfire, he's overpaid and insists on playing Lampard and Gerrard together (always problematic IMO), but he's led the team to two international tournaments without any major hiccups. Not bad for a Johnny Foreigner eh? So unless one of his fellow managers actually has something sensible to say, how about keeping stumm for a while and leave cretinous statements to the fans?

By the way, anyone for Stuart Pearce?

Yep - Psycho would be great, Curbs would be OK, Allardyce interesting & might work, but Bruce & Robson - no thank you like Platt they would only take us backwards.

Would any of those opining on the subject care to explain how any of the usual suspects would be in any way different from Sven? "Right lads, we'll set out in the 442, flat back four and midfield, and then we'll overwhelm them with commitment and pointless crosses into a 14 inch tall striker. RULE BRITANNIA!"
